Plain is Pretty

For this design the client wanted something very plain. She didn't want any type of design or writing on the cake. I decided since there wasn't going to be anything on the top and it was going to be a larger cake to add one single flower. So today while killing some time on my lunch break I came across this beautiful giant daisy. I knew that this flower would look amazing and add some depth to this wonderful tasty treat. Underneath this flower is a simple yellow cake iced with plain vanilla buttercream.

Coconut Craze

If you love coconut then this is the cake for you. This is a coconut cake with toasted coconut and buttercream icing. I always taste my tasty treats at some point during their creation but unfortunately when it comes to the coconut cakes I cannot due to my allergy. Good thing my husband loves sweets and is always up for a taste test. I have to rely on my sense of smell when it comes to these tasty treats.

Three's Company

For this order they wanted 3 different flavors. So instead of doing stacked cakes the client bought this neat 3 tier stand. The cakes were for her father-in-laws 78th birthday. His favorite flavor was coconut. The other two cakes were yellow with chocolate buttercream and chocolate with chocolate fudge icing. I wanted each cake to have its own unique design since they were all unique in flavor.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse

Its that time again for Hayden's birthday. This year he wanted to have a Mickey Mouse clubhouse themed 4th birthday. He specifically asked for a Donald Duck cake but we wanted to make sure all the characters where on the cake as well so I made sure that Donald was front and center!!

Savannah's Fondant Cake

A friend of mines daughter loves to cook and is fascinated with cakes. For her birthday she wanted to help bake and decorate her cake. Savannah wanted her cake to be completely made with fondant and not buttercream, so I did some research and found a recipe for marshmallow fondant. Her party is a black and white theme and she wanted to incorporate zebra stripes and polka dots. Savannah helped in all aspects from mixing all the ingredients down to rolling out the fondant. I really enjoyed teaching her all the aspects of cake baking and decorating. Its nice to have an assistant, wink wink!!

Aloha

I loved creating this Wedding shower cake for Ashley and Scott. The theme for their shower was a luau. I didn't want the cake to be too over the top since it was for a shower but I still wanted it to be whimsical. There are sugar hibiscus matching their invitations, flip flops and palm trees representing their walks on the beach, and the flamingos representing the Bride and Groom.

Easter Sweets

Since the sweets at Easter were such a great hit I decided to post them on my blog. I made Cream Lemon Bars and individual Flower Pot Dirt Cakes. I found these wonderful lemon bars on a blog I check almost everyday, The Pioneer Woman. http://www.thepioneerwoman.com/ As far as the dirt cakes go, I enjoyed these as a kid and thought it would be a really nice surprise for everyone. I cut out a round piece of pound cake for the bottom so that the filling would not leak out. I then proceeded to layer the "dirt" or Oreo cookies and the chocolate and vanilla pudding mixtures until it reached the top. I also layered gummy worms for a secret surprise. At the top I inserted a straw that I cut to fit the flower pots and inserted a silk flower.
